Greencastle - Mrs. Martha Cronkhite, 84, of Greencastle died Sunday evening in Hendricks County Hospital at Danville. She was a member of the Wallace Lutheran Church and Waynetown Chapter 435, Order of Eastern Star. Born Oct. 28, 1889, at Danville, Ill., she was a daughter of Christian and Emma Shoape Nicklas. Survivors include four sons, Alfred of Kingman, Dean of Crawfordsville and Elwin and Robert of Indianapolis; four daughters, Frances Ballard, Augusta Lewis and Dortha Dretske, all of Indianapolis, and Virginia Knauer of Cincinnati; a sister, Grace Warrick of South Bend; a brother, Robert Nicklas of Covington; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Augustus C., and two sons, Dale and Harold. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hopkins Funeral Home here with the Rev. Richard Browder officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Hill Cemetery here. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

She was born Oct. 28, 1889, in Danville, Ill., the daughter of Christian and Emma Shoupe Nicklas. She married Augustus C. Cronkhite, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Wallace and Waynetown Chapter 435 Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include four sons, Alfred of Kingman, Dean of Crawfordsville and Elwin and Robert, both of Indianapolis; four daughters, Mrs. Frances Ballard, Mrs. Augusta Lewis and Mrs. Dortha Dretske, all of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Virginia Knauer of Cincinnati, Ohio; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Grace Warrick of South Bend, Ind.; and a brother, Robert Nicklas of Covington. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hopkins Funeral Home in Greencastle. The Rev. Richard Browder will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
